Countries often have double taxation agreements (DTAs). This means that you may pay less or even 0% tax in one country if you pay tax in another. If you live in the UAE, you can officially become a tax resident and pay 0% taxes. To take advantage of the DTA in your country, you will need a special document that confirmed your tax status in the UAE.

This document is Tax Residency Certificate for Treaty purposes (TRC). The UAE has introduced it in 2023.
So, you can fill it out and submit it to your country's tax authority to officially record your 0% tax in the UAE.
There are two types of TRC you may need
TRC for DTA purposes is a document that proves you're a tax resident of one country to claim DTA benefits in another country.
TRC for DTA purposes
Domestic TRC is a document that proves you're a tax resident for that country's own tax rules. It helps you pay the right taxes in the country, get tax breaks, and comply with other regulations.

How do I get a TRC certificate?
Once you have selected the option you want, you have several steps to take:

Here are the documents you’ll need:
For natural person:
  • Passport
  • Valid Residence Permit
  • Emirates ID (must match the name on the card for verification).
  • A certified copy of residential lease agreement
  • Source of income/salary certificate
  • Bank statement from a local bank covering 6 months within the fiscal year related to the application
  • Entry and exit report from the Federal Department of Identity and Citizenship or a local competent government authority
  • Proof of permanent place of residence:
a. Certified lease agreement or electricity bill under the name of the applicant.
b. Title deed in case of private property.
For a legal person:
  • Trade License
  • Memorandum of Association.
  • Proof of Authorization (from Memorandum of Association or Power of Attorney)
  • Copy of the audited financial statement certified by an independent auditor, stamped and signed by the auditing firm
The financial statement must be for the same fiscal year as requested in the application or the prior year.

  • Certified Lease agreement / tenancy contract for the office.
  • A bank statement issued by a local bank covering 6 months within the financial year related to the request.
  • Applicant is a legal person – Government entity:
a. copy of the Decree or Government Decision or Trade license.
b. Request letter issued by the person (the Government entity)
